Sports L’s

If you know me you’d know that I am a huge sports fan and root for some interesting teams which can be very tough. I have experienced some heartbreaking losses as a fan of some teams so I just wanted to share some of these with you.

Lakers vs Celtics 2008 NBA Finals Game 1 & 4
If you follow me on twitter, you have seen me discuss why game 1was painful but let me say this again PAUL PIERCE BUM ASS FAKED THAT DAMN INJURY. Paul Pierce put on a sensational performance as he conveniently got injured and had to leave in a wheel chair when the Lakers had some momentum, the Lakers never truly recovered for Pierce’s “comeback” which to me was fake.
Now the Lakers blowing a 24 pt lead and letting the Celtics go on a 21-3 run in game 4 was crushing and this changed the series as a 2-2 tie turned into the Celtics being up 3-1.

Lakers vs Suns 1st Round 2006 Playoffs Game 6
After winning three straight and then dropping game 5 in Phoenix the Lakers were still in the driver’s seat and ready to close out Phoenix at home up three in the closing seconds of the 4th quarter then it happened. From the top of the key serial underachiever Tim Thomas delivered a pump fake and I swear Kwame Brown went flying towards half court which led to Thomas hitting the game tying three. Lakers lose in OT and of course Kobe just gives up in game 7.

Jets vs Steelers 2005 AFC Divisional Playoffs
This here was a painful one, the Jets led by Chad Pennington and Curtis Martin at the time were underdogs against a 15-1 Steelers team. Jets barely won their previous wildcard game against the San Diego Chargers so of courseee they would lose this game easily. Well the Jets came to play and were on the verge of heading to the AFC Championship game when POOF Doug Brien missed TWO kicks that would have given the Jets the lead with the second taking place as time expired. Pittsburgh drives down the field in OT and of course wins this game.

Jets vs Steelers 2011 AFC Championship game
The second of Mark Sanchez’s AFC Championship game appearances, the Jets came back and were down 24-19 with 2 minutes and some change left. It was a 3rd and 6 and of course in typical Big Ben fashion he extends the play and finds a young receiver named Antonio Brown for a 14yd catch and WELP game over.

Mets vs Braves 1999 NLCS Game 6
Watching Kenny “The Gambler” Rogers walk in the winning run was just too much for my 14 yr old self to endure at the time. The Mets played such a tough series so to go out like that was disappointing.

Mets vs Cardinals 2006 NLCS Game 7
Your best hitter is on with the bases loaded down 3-1 so the last thing you would expect was for him to get struck out looking by a rookie at that, this was a tough one to get over.

Rangers vs Devils 2012 NHL ECF
I’ll never forget this L because as I was walking into Brother Jimmy’s to meet with some friends BAAAMMM the Devils score in OT to put their annoying asses in the finals.

UNC vs Duke 2/8/12
UNC is up 84-82 with a few seconds left and somehow Tyler Zeller ends up guarding the highly touted (at the time) Austin Rivers, Zeller gives him enough space and booooya Rivers sinks the game winning three at the buzzer.

UNC vs Villanova 2016 National Championship

I did not list the L’s in order but this surely is top 2-3 for me. After such a great comeback and Marcus Paige’s incredible game tying shot the way the game ended was devastating. Kris Jenkins receives the ball and just calmly throws up a three pointed at the buzzer to sink the Tar Heels, it took me about 5-6 months to watch the end of that game again and that loss still stings as a fan.
